Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Materials, Clean Technology and Healthcare sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.38%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were First Quantum Minerals Ltd . (TSX:FM), which rose 12.50% or 2.03 points to trade at 18.27 at the close. Ero Copper Corp (TSX:ERO) added 8.14% or 2.12 points to end at 28.18 and Capstone Mining Corp (TSX:CS) was up 6.96% or 0.67 points to 10.29 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Transcontinental Inc (TSX:TCLa), which lost 4.17% or 0.61 points to trade at 14.01 in late trade. TransAlta Corp (TSX:TA) declined 2.79% or 0.26 points to end at 9.06 and Spin Master Corp (TSX:TOY) shed 2.64% or 0.82 points to 30.30.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 655 to 298 and 97 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 4.00% to 13.67.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.31% or 7.15 to $2,349.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 0.11% or 0.09 to hit $83.66 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 0.36% or 0.32 to trade at $89.33 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.07% to 0.73, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.26% to 0.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.43% at 105.90.
