Investing.com – Brazil stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Basic Materials, Electric Power and Public Utilities sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa gained 1.01%.
The best performers of the session on the Bovespa were Gol Linhas Aereas Inteligentes SA (SA:GOLL4), which rose 15.37% or 0.93 points to trade at 6.98 at the close. Meanwhile, Vale SA (SA:VALE3) added 8.12% or 1.39 points to end at 18.50 and Cia Siderurgica Nacional SA (SA:CSNA3) was up 7.05% or 0.32 points to 4.86 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Braskem SA (SA:BRKM5), which fell 3.01% or 0.40 points to trade at 12.90 at the close. Cielo SA (SA:CIEL3) declined 1.79% or 0.79 points to end at 43.44 and Hypermarcas SA (SA:HYPE3) was down 1.70% or 0.36 points to 20.79.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange by 180 to 127 and 10 ended unchanged.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 7.27% to 29.23.
Gold for August delivery was unchanged 0.00% or 0.00 to $1156.60 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 0.08% or 0.04 to hit $52.12 a barrel, while the September US coffee C contract rose 1.50% or 1.90 to trade at $128.47 .
USD/BRL was down 0.93% to 3.1293, while EUR/BRL fell 2.37% to 3.4453.
The US Dollar Index was up 1.02% at 96.93.
