Investing.com – Brazil equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Basic Materials, Public Utilities and Electric Power sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa declined 1.43%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were ALL America Latina Logistica SA (SA:RUMO3), which rose 12.99% or 0.43 points to trade at 3.74 at the close. JBS SA (SA:JBSS3) added 6.21% or 0.57 points to end at 9.75 and EcoRodovias SA (SA:ECOR3) was up 3.11% or 0.21 points to 6.97 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Gerdau SA (SA:GGBR4), which lost 10.54% or 0.88 points to trade at 7.47 in late trade. Cia Siderurgica Nacional SA (SA:CSNA3) declined 11.98% or 1.56 points to end at 11.46 and Usinas Siderurgicas de Minas Gerais (SA:USIM5) shed 9.91% or 0.22 points to 2.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 169 to 118 and 26 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 5.79% to 52.41.
In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was down 1.65% or 20.60 to $1227.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 0.69% or 0.29 to hit $41.47 a barrel, while the May US coffee C contract rose 0.84% or 1.03 to trade at $123.08 .
USD/BRL was down 0.64% to 3.4760, while EUR/BRL fell 0.78% to 3.9137.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.16% at 94.96.
