Investing.com – Brazil equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Basic Materials, Industrials and Electric Power sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa lost 0.99%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Smiles ON (SA:SMLE3), which rose 2.92% or 1.33 points to trade at 46.95 at the close. Cia de Saneamento Basico do Estado (SA:SBSP3) added 1.55% or 0.43 points to end at 28.25 and BB Seguridade Participacoes SA (SA:BBSE3) was up 1.39% or 0.38 points to 27.65 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Vale SA (SA:VALE3), which lost 7.65% or 1.30 points to trade at 15.70 in late trade. Cia Siderurgica Nacional SA (SA:CSNA3) declined 7.37% or 0.60 points to end at 7.54 and Metalurgica Gerdau SA (SA:GOAU4) shed 6.03% or 0.140 points to 2.180.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 166 to 112 and 21 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 3.66% to 37.71.
In commodities trading, Gold for August delivery was up 0.76% or 9.65 to $1271.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 1.50% or 0.77 to hit $50.46 a barrel, while the July US coffee C contract fell 3.17% or 4.40 to trade at $134.50 .
USD/BRL was up 1.02% to 3.3973, while EUR/BRL rose 0.32% to 3.8443.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.56% at 94.11.
