Investing.com – Brazil equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Basic Materials, Industrials and Electric Power sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa declined 0.36%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Usinas Siderurgicas de Minas Gerais (SA:USIM5), which rose 6.06% or 0.26 points to trade at 4.55 at the close. Cyrela Brazil Realty SA (SA:CYRE3) added 3.68% or 0.41 points to end at 11.56 and BB Seguridade Participacoes SA (SA:BBSE3) was up 3.16% or 0.91 points to 29.72 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Klabin Unt (SA:KLBN11), which lost 3.71% or 0.65 points to trade at 16.88 in late trade. CEMIG - Companhia Energetica Minas Gerais Pref (SA:CMIG4) declined 2.79% or 0.22 points to end at 7.67 and Suzano Papel e Celulose SA (SA:SUZB5) shed 2.57% or 0.36 points to 13.65.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 193 to 170 and 34 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 2.30% to 34.83.
In commodities trading, Gold for February delivery was up 0.18% or 2.05 to $1164.05 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 1.51% or 0.79 to hit $53.12 a barrel, while the March US coffee C contract rose 3.09% or 4.25 to trade at $141.82 .
USD/BRL was down 1.47% to 3.2171, while EUR/BRL fell 0.89% to 3.3666.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.52% at 102.70.
