Investing.com – Brazil equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Consumption, Industrials and Basic Materials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa rose 0.17% to hit a new 52-week high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were JBS SA (SA:JBSS3), which rose 7.36% or 0.81 points to trade at 11.82 at the close. Kroton Educacional SA (SA:KROT3) added 5.50% or 0.800 points to end at 15.340 and Metalurgica Gerdau SA (SA:GOAU4) was up 4.25% or 0.170 points to 4.170 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Tim Participacoes SA (SA:TIMP3), which lost 3.13% or 0.27 points to trade at 8.36 in late trade. BR Malls Participacoes SA (SA:BRML3) declined 2.89% or 0.38 points to end at 12.77 and Vale SA (SA:VALE3) shed 2.63% or 0.48 points to 17.79.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 189 to 156 and 26 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 0.68% to 30.98.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was down 0.57% or 7.75 to $1341.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 4.07% or 1.85 to hit $47.35 a barrel, while the December US coffee C contract fell 0.12% or 0.18 to trade at $154.77 .
USD/BRL was up 0.75% to 3.2171, while EUR/BRL rose 0.93% to 3.6216.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.12% at 95.06.
