Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Mining, Oil & Gas Producers and Industrial Metals & Mining sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.35%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Berkeley Group Hldgs (LON:BKGH), which rose 3.67% or 89.00 points to trade at 2517.00 at the close. ITV PLC (LON:ITV) added 2.70% or 4.50 points to end at 171.20 and Next PLC (LON:NXT) was up 2.47% or 119.00 points to 4939.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO), which lost 3.91% or 28.50 points to trade at 700.00 in late trade. Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) declined 3.44% or 44.00 points to end at 1234.00 and BHP Billiton PLC (LON:BLT) shed 3.03% or 41.00 points to 1313.50.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1151 to 1146 and 425 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was down 0.36% or 4.30 to $1186.50 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 3.80% or 1.79 to hit $45.29 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 3.60% or 1.77 to trade at $47.44 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.70% to 1.2502, while EUR/GBP fell 0.62% to 0.8498.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.03% at 101.18.
