Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Mining and Pharmaceuticals & Biotech sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.12%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL), which rose 2.53% or 19.80 points to trade at 803.60 at the close. Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN) added 2.48% or 4.40 points to end at 181.45 and RSA Insurance Group PLC (LON:RSA) was up 2.23% or 11.100 points to 509.000 in late trade.
Biggest losers included EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ), which lost 4.23% or 48.000 points to trade at 1086.000 in late trade. Taylor Wimpey PLC (LON:TW) declined 2.35% or 3.60 points to end at 149.70 and Persimmon PLC (LON:PSN) shed 2.35% or 42.00 points to 1748.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1142 to 998 and 405 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was up 0.28% or 3.75 to $1327.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 2.12% or 0.95 to hit $43.95 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 1.97% or 0.93 to trade at $46.17 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.02% to 1.3194, while EUR/GBP rose 0.40% to 0.8538.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.29% at 95.26.
