Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Oil & Gas Producers and Mobile Telecommunications sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.11%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Old Mutual PLC (LON:OML), which rose 3.64% or 7.00 points to trade at 199.20 at the close. EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ) added 3.58% or 36.000 points to end at 1043.000 and Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK) was up 2.58% or 45.00 points to 1792.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Micro Focus International (LON:MCRO), which lost 3.49% or 78.00 points to trade at 2157.00 in late trade. Tesco PLC (LON:TSCO) declined 2.20% or 4.50 points to end at 200.40 and Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO) shed 1.98% or 13.50 points to 670.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1088 to 869 and 430 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for February delivery was up 0.99% or 11.15 to $1140.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 1.77% or 0.90 to hit $51.80 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 2.04% or 1.10 to trade at $55.12 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.52% to 1.2481, while EUR/GBP fell 0.07% to 0.8380.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.41% at 102.73.
