ALMATY, Aug 26 (Reuters) - Kazakhstan's privately-owned
passenger airline SCAT will lease 15 Sukhoi Superjet 100
(SSJ100) aircraft from Russia's State Transport Leasing Company
(GTLK), the two sides said on Wednesday.
SCAT, a regional airline headquartered in Shymkent in
southern Kazakhstan which makes charter flights abroad, said it
had also been looking at Brazil's Embraer 170 or 190 EMBR3.SA
and Canada's Bombardier CRJ1000 BBDb.TO of a similar class.
It said it had opted for the SSJ100 because either the
Embraer or Bombardier planes would have been hit with additional
customs taxes, making the project more expensive, especially
taking into account the sharp fall of the Kazakh tenge currency.
The agreement with state-owned GTLK, which supplies
equipment to Russian airlines and airports, was signed on
Tuesday, the two companies said without disclosing any financial
details.
The airplanes will de delivered to SCAT for 144-month
operating leasing, GTLK said. SCAT said it expected the first
Sukhoi to arrive in May 2016.
Sukhoi builds the 100-seat regional jet in partnership with
Finmeccanica 's SIFI.MI Alenia Aermacchi.
