Investing.com – Japan stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Steel, Machinery and Paper & Pulp sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 gained 1.91% to hit a new 1-month high.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Yaskawa Electric Corp. (T:6506), which rose 10.11% or 127.0 points to trade at 1383.0 at the close. Meanwhile, Pioneer Corp. (T:6773) added 7.91% or 25.0 points to end at 341.0 and NTN Corp. (T:6472) was up 6.40% or 34.0 points to 565.0 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Konami Corp. (T:9766), which fell 3.96% or 107.0 points to trade at 2598.0 at the close. Tosoh Corp. (T:4042) declined 2.66% or 17.0 points to end at 622.0 and Shionogi & Co., Ltd. (T:4507) was down 2.11% or 90.0 points to 4180.0.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1636 to 234 and 1 ended unchanged.
Shares in Pioneer Corp. (T:6773) rose to 52-week highs; rising 7.91% or 25.0 to 341.0.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 2.11% to 25.54 a new 1-month low.
Crude oil for December delivery was down 0.96% or 0.45 to $45.84 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in December fell 0.65% or 0.32 to hit $48.40 a barrel, while the December Gold contract fell 0.29% or 3.40 to trade at $1174.10 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.05% to 119.91, while EUR/JPY rose 0.03% to 136.03.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.04% at 94.94.
