Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Consumer Durables, Oil & Gas and Technology sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the S&P CNX Nifty declined 0.31%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 0.41%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P CNX Nifty were Tech Mahindra Limited (NSE:TEML), which rose 3.52% or 18.45 points to trade at 542.05 at the close. Meanwhile, TATA STEEL LIMITED (NSE:TISC) added 3.37% or 8.35 points to end at 256.30 and Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NSE:HALC) was up 3.36% or 3.55 points to 109.25 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Idea Cellular Ltd (NSE:IDEA), which fell 3.92% or 6.70 points to trade at 164.10 at the close. Cairn India Limited (NSE:CAIL) declined 3.06% or 5.25 points to end at 166.25 and Hero MotoCorp Limited (NSE:HROM) was down 2.72% or 73.25 points to 2623.85.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were TATA STEEL LIMITED (BO:TISC) which rose 3.39% to 256.40, Hindalco Industries Ltd. (BO:HALC) which was up 3.36% to settle at 109.30 and Coal India Limited (BO:COAL) which gained 2.82% to close at 442.85.
The worst performers were Hero MotoCorp Limited (BO:HROM) which was down 2.73% to 2624.25 in late trade, Gail (India) Ltd. (BO:GAIL) which lost 2.53% to settle at 345.10 and Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:ONGC) which was down 2.40% to 266.90 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 788 to 648 and 8 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 421 rose and 340 declined, while 5 ended unchanged.
Shares in Gail (India) Ltd. (BO:GAIL) fell to 52-week lows; falling 2.53% or 8.95 to 345.10. Shares in Coal India Limited (BO:COAL) rose to all time highs; rising 2.82% or 12.15 to 442.85. Shares in Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:ONGC) fell to 52-week lows; falling 2.40% or 6.55 to 266.90.
The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of S&P CNX Nifty options, was down 3.64% to 14.8300.
Gold for December delivery was up 0.23% or 2.50 to $1091.90 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 1.63% or 0.73 to hit $45.91 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 1.72% or 0.85 to trade at $50.37 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.62% to 63.781, while EUR/INR fell 0.37% to 70.0150.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.19% at 97.41.
