Investing.com – Greece equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Food, Retail and Basic Resources sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Athens, the Athens General-Composite rose 0.13%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Athens General-Composite were Select Textile (AT:EPIr), which rose 12.59% or 0.018 points to trade at 0.161 at the close. Reds (AT:CAMr) added 6.06% or 0.020 points to end at 0.350 and Coca Cola HBC AG (AT:EEEr) was up 3.70% or 0.6700 points to 18.7700 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Elinoil Hellenic Petroleum Company SA (AT:ELIr), which lost 5.45% or 0.0540 points to trade at 0.9400 in late trade. Eurobank Ergasias SA (AT:EURBr) declined 3.73% or 0.037 points to end at 0.955 and Piraeus Bank SA (AT:BOPr) shed 3.55% or 0.010 points to 0.272.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 56 to 40 and 18 ended unchanged on the Athens Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for August delivery was up 1.25% or 15.55 to $1262.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 1.03% or 0.52 to hit $50.88 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 1.15% or 0.59 to trade at $52.03 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.29% to 1.1391, while EUR/GBP rose 0.19% to 0.7825.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.31% at 93.55.
