Investing.com – Germany equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Transportation & Logistics, Utilities and Consumer & Cyclical sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX added 0.32% to hit a new all time high, while the MDAX index gained 0.07%, and the TecDAX index climbed 0.21%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were Deutsche Post AG NA O.N. (DE:DPWGn), which rose 2.53% or 0.810 points to trade at 32.870 at the close. E.ON SE NA (DE:EONGn) added 2.05% or 0.177 points to end at 8.817 and Beiersdorf AG O.N. (DE:BEIG) was up 1.61% or 1.530 points to 96.310 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Volkswagen AG VZO O.N. (DE:VOWG_p), which lost 2.11% or 2.85 points to trade at 132.40 in late trade. Deutsche Bank AG NA O.N. (DE:DBKGn) declined 1.86% or 0.290 points to end at 15.275 and Commerzbank AG O.N. (DE:CBKG) shed 1.48% or 0.140 points to 9.300.
The top performers on the MDAX were Bilfinger SE O.N. (DE:GBFG) which rose 3.99% to 35.710, Deutsche Euroshop AG (DE:DEQGn) which was up 1.43% to settle at 37.650 and Duerr AG (DE:DUEG) which gained 1.38% to close at 99.760.
The worst performers were Aurubis AG (DE:NAFG) which was down 2.95% to 70.140 in late trade, Aareal Bank AG (DE:ARLG) which lost 1.56% to settle at 34.790 and Gerresheimer AG (BS:GXId) which was down 1.39% to 72.990 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were Pfeiffer Vacuum Technology O.N. (DE:PV) which rose 1.92% to 132.60, Xing AG (DE:OBCGn) which was up 1.65% to settle at 243.15 and Bechtle AG (DE:BC8G) which gained 1.50% to close at 114.750.
The worst performers were SMA Solar Technology AG (DE:S92G) which was down 2.39% to 26.185 in late trade, Medigene NA O.N. (DE:MDG1k) which lost 2.19% to settle at 11.395 and Dialog Semiconductor (DE:DLGS) which was down 1.95% to 41.570 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 397 to 332 and 30 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was up 3.34% to 13.02.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.72% or 9.19 to $1277.79 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 3.64% or 1.69 to hit $44.77 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 3.55% or 1.73 to trade at $46.99 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.61% to 1.1278, while EUR/GBP rose 0.22% to 0.8807.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.56% at 96.43.
