Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Healthcare, REITs and Real Estate sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.15%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Novagold Resources Inc . (TO:NG), which rose 8.96% or 0.58 points to trade at 7.05 at the close. Precision Drilling Corporation (TO:PD) added 7.49% or 0.43 points to end at 6.17 and Canadian Energy Services & Technology Corp (TO:CEU) was up 6.55% or 0.220 points to 3.580 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Concordia Healthcare (TO:CXR), which lost 7.65% or 3.34 points to trade at 40.34 in late trade. ProMetic Life Sciences Inc. (TO:PLI) declined 3.78% or 0.110 points to end at 2.800 and Westshore Terminals Investment Corp (TO:WTE) shed 3.44% or 0.65 points to 18.25.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 641 to 502 and 149 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 5.05% to 13.73.
In commodities trading, Gold for August delivery was up 0.07% or 0.80 to $1217.50 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 0.83% or 0.41 to hit $48.92 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 1.41% or 0.71 to trade at $49.65 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.37% to 0.7635, while CAD/EUR fell 0.31% to 0.6859.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.11% at 95.83.
