Investing.com – Brazil equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Public Utilities, Real Estate and Electric Power sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa declined 0.55% to hit a new 1-month low.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Smiles ON (SA:SMLE3), which rose 5.20% or 2.07 points to trade at 41.89 at the close. Qualicorp SA (SA:QUAL3) added 4.13% or 0.63 points to end at 15.90 and Fibria Celulose SA (SA:FIBR3) was up 3.94% or 1.17 points to 30.85 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Cia Energetica de Minas Gerais (SA:CMIG4), which lost 7.07% or 0.42 points to trade at 5.52 in late trade. Usinas Siderurgicas de Minas Gerais (SA:USIM5) declined 6.02% or 0.13 points to end at 2.03 and Cia Siderurgica Nacional SA (SA:CSNA3) shed 5.33% or 0.44 points to 7.81.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 157 to 155 and 20 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 0.94% to 44.05.
In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was down 1.44% or 18.45 to $1258.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 0.85% or 0.41 to hit $47.90 a barrel, while the July US coffee C contract fell 2.18% or 2.90 to trade at $129.92 .
USD/BRL was up 1.90% to 3.5562, while EUR/BRL rose 1.07% to 3.9902.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.67% at 95.18.
