Brazil shares higher at close of trade; Bovespa up 1.03%

Investing.com – Brazil equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Financials, Electric Power and Public Utilities sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa gained 1.03%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were CEMIG - Companhia Energetica Minas Gerais Pref (SA:CMIG4), which rose 3.30% or 0.29 points to trade at 9.09 at the close. CCR SA (SA:CCRO3) added 3.22% or 0.53 points to end at 17.00 and Companhia Brasileira deDistribuicao (SA:PCAR4) was up 2.88% or 1.51 points to 54.00 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Fibria Celulose SA (SA:FIBR3), which lost 4.39% or 0.96 points to trade at 20.90 in late trade. Localiza Rent a Car SA (SA:RENT3) declined 2.47% or 1.03 points to end at 40.73 and Raia Drogasil SA (SA:RADL3) shed 2.34% or 1.620 points to 67.580.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 221 to 129 and 35 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.

The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 0.68% to 32.26.

In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was up 0.73% or 9.75 to $1341.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 1.70% or 0.77 to hit $46.11 a barrel, while the December US coffee C contract fell 0.90% or 1.40 to trade at $154.80 .

USD/BRL was up 0.35% to 3.2181, while EUR/BRL rose 0.52% to 3.6061.

The US Dollar Index was down 0.14% at 95.33.
