Investing.com – Australia stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Metals & Mining, Materials and IT sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Australia, the S&P/ASX 200 gained 1.90%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Sandfire Resources NL (ASX:SFR), which rose 12.12% or 0.680 points to trade at 6.290 at the close. Meanwhile, Paladin Energy Ltd (ASX:PDN) added 6.82% or 0.015 points to end at 0.235 and Iluka Resources Ltd (ASX:ILU) was up 6.25% or 0.450 points to 7.650 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Bradken Ltd (ASX:BKN), which fell 4.04% or 0.045 points to trade at 1.070 at the close. Evolution Mining Ltd (ASX:EVN) declined 3.00% or 0.035 points to end at 1.130 and Asaleo Care (ASX:AHY) was down 2.72% or 0.050 points to 1.785.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Australia Stock Exchange by 667 to 311 and 162 ended unchanged.
Shares in Bradken Ltd (ASX:BKN) fell to all time lows; losing 4.04% or 0.045 to 1.070.
The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 12.54% to 18.431.
Gold for August delivery was down 0.19% or 2.20 to $1153.20 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 2.41% or 1.26 to hit $50.94 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 2.05% or 1.19 to trade at $56.96 a barrel.
AUD/USD was up 0.28% to 0.7427, while AUD/JPY rose 0.30% to 91.70.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.22% at 97.15.
