Brazil shares lower at close of trade; Bovespa down 0.08%

Investing.com – Brazil equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Industrials, Public Utilities and Electric Power sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa declined 0.08%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Petroleo Brasileiro SA (SA:PETR3), which rose 2.88% or 0.45 points to trade at 16.08 at the close. Petroleo Brasileiro SA PN (SA:PETR4) added 1.92% or 0.26 points to end at 13.83 and Gerdau SA (SA:GGBR4) was up 1.80% or 0.17 points to 9.64 in late trade.

Biggest losers included JBS SA (SA:JBSS3), which lost 10.04% or 1.25 points to trade at 11.20 in late trade. Vale SA (SA:VALE5) declined 2.39% or 0.37 points to end at 15.12 and Bradespar SA (SA:BRAP4) shed 2.31% or 0.25 points to 10.58.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 173 to 145 and 25 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.

The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 6.51% to 30.58 a new 52-week low.

In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was up 0.18% or 2.35 to $1330.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 2.31% or 1.02 to hit $45.17 a barrel, while the December US coffee C contract rose 0.15% or 0.23 to trade at $151.35 .

USD/BRL was up 0.78% to 3.2819, while EUR/BRL rose 0.72% to 3.6593.

The US Dollar Index was down 0.14% at 95.74.
