Gold bulls, don’t pop the champagne just yet. The record-smashing rally may not slow until the price hits the $2,000 per ounce mark.

As markets opened for a new week, August COMEX gold futures were trading around $1,930, up nearly 2% on the day and well beyond the all-time high of $1,911.60 set in September 2011.

Meanwhile, spot gold, the price for metal for immediate delivery, surged to $1,944.57, shattering the record high of $1,920.85 set in September 2011.
